MEDIA COVERAGE OF THE FIRST AUCKLAND MAYORAL DEBATE – from Auckland Mayoral Candidate Penny Bright‏

By Penny Bright, 4 August 2010

Well – it was a bit of a hoot being the ‘rebel who got the applause’!

That will no doubt throw the expensive ‘spin machines’ of the main ‘Corporate Lapdog’ Mayoral candidates into turbodrive!

I think the audience responded postively to what I was saying – because they knew it was the truth.

This political battle isn’t between ‘left’ and ‘right’.

It’s between the corporates and the public, and those who serve their interests.

If you’re not actively fighting to stop this corrupt corporate takeover of the Auckland region – you’re helping it to happen.

I’m the only Mayoral candidate with both a ‘vision’ and a ‘plan’ to STOP THE $UPERCITY.

My vision is that the people of Auckland will rise up to STOP this corrupt corporate takeover – that is the Auckland $UPERCITY:

FIRST: By voting for me Penny Bright as Mayor – will give the Government the  message that the people DO NOT WANT THE $UPERCITY which CANNOT be ignored.

SECOND: By considering ‘backing up their vote with direct action’ – disputing and with holding rates payments to force the repeal of the underpinning $UPERCITY legislation which set up the corporate framework to run the Auckland region, like a business, by business for business – the mechanism being the unelected CCO corporate model and the unelected ‘Association of Treacherous Aucklanders (otherwise known as the Auckland Transition Agency) ATA).

My vision is that citizens from Franklin to Rodney will make a stand that cannot be ignored to defend two fundamental and underpinning principles of democracy:

1) “It is the will of the people that is the basis of the authority of Government”

2) “There shall be no taxation without representation”  – NO SAY – NP PAY!

Citizens were denied our lawful right to a binding vote on the $UPERCITY as enshrined in s 24 of the Local govt Act 2002 “Reorganisational Proposal’, Schedule 3, s $( “Polls must be held”

This has been  another Rogernomic$ BLITZKREIG pushed by BIG BUSINESS.

This $upercity is NOT for the benefit of the citizen and ratepaying public majority  – it is is to get rid of thousands of private snouts in the public trough and replace them with fewer but bigger multinational snouts – connected to those who are currently in power.

Since the last ‘amalgamations’ in the 1980s, when the functioning ARA and local Borough Councils were replaced with the ARC and current Councils / since the replacement of ‘in-house Council services were contracted out / since the introduction of CCOs – HAVE YOUR RATES GONE UP OR DOWN???

IF  YOUR RATES HAVE NOT GONE DOWN  – YOU HAVE BEEN LIED TO!

REMEMBER – THERE HAS NEVER BEEN ANY COST-BENEFIT ANALYSIS OF THE CCO WHEN MODEL INTO WHICH 75% OF AUCKLAND REGIONAL RATES ARE TO BE PAID.

So!

WHEN INJUSTICE BECOMES LAW- RESISTANCE BECOMES DUTY!
