Internet Censorship In New Zealand: Major Truth-Providing Websites Blocked By Asia Netcom

Has Chinese-style internet censorship arrived in New Zealand this year?  The question is posed because two major news websites, Infowars.com and Prisonplanet.com, both of which are run by documentary maker and radio show host Alex Jones, who is renowned for exposing the truths the corporate-controlled mainstream media attempts to conceal,  were found to be have been selectively blocked on Friday evening and were still unavailable at the time of writing.

Thankfully, this seemingly draconian measure does not effect all internet users in New Zealand.  It appears to be confined to those whose internet server providers, (ISPs), use Asia Netcom for their international internet traffic.  Telstraclear, Vodafone and Worldxchange Communications users are not effected, while Woosh, Orcon, Slingshot and Telecom users are unable to access the two sites.

A fan of Infowars.com and a 9/11 truth activist, Jeff Mitchell, reported on Saturday that he contacted his ISP, Orcon to establish what was causing the block, and was advised by a computer technician who did a traceroute, that the break in traffic to the two websites was found to be occurring at  Asia Netcom’s router in Sydney.  This technician also advised that as Telstraclear used a different route, their customers were still able to access the two sites.

There have been calls for the Internet to be censored and controlled, and for an Internet 2, by proponents of a one world government, or “New World Order.”  This is because the internet as it is, is impeding the global elites’ ability to push their tyrannical, self-serving agendas through.

A clear indicator that the internet is regarded as a serious threat to global elite was evident when on March the 18th, 2009  Senator Jay Rockefeller of the Rockefeller dynasty, a family pivotal in the push for a one world government, [1,2]  went so far as to suggest that it might have been better if the internet had never been invented and we went back to using pencils and paper, [3].  While it may have seemed like a ridiculous statement to make at the time, it indicates that they want to make it increasingly difficult to get to the truth and they want to regain control of all media.

Consequently,  it is of no surprise that Infowars.com and Prisonplanet.com appear to have been selectively targeted, as these two sites present a huge threat to the global elites’ operation.  They provide access to credible information, from a wide range of contributors, which has been crippling the elites’ agendas.  They have been providing updates on what has been happening around the world, including access to the Alex Jones radio show, which is now the most popular radio show on the internet worldwide.  They expose that the underwear bomber,  9/11 and the bombings of 7/7 and Oklahoma City were inside jobs and that, in fact, many terror-related events are government-sponsored.  Plus, they have been pivotal in exposing that man-made global warming and the H1N1 pandemic were hoaxes, and that the Federal Reserve bank has been taking money from taxpayers and putting it into bankers’ pockets, and calling for it to be shut down.

Hopefully, this block is merely a temporary problem.  If not, action needs to be taken.  In the meantime,  you can still pick the radio show up at GCNLive.com by proxy,  use Ninjacloak.com to read the articles on Infowars.com and Prisonplanet.com articles, and access some of the articles on Alex Jones’ other sites which are still available, including Infowars.net, Propaganda Matrix and JonesReport.com.  Plus, Prisonplanet.tv is still accessible and you can still access the shop which sells his  documentaries via the link here: http://infowars-shop.stores.yahoo.net/faofreprofba.html.

Keep getting the truth out!

In Peace.

  1. Clare Swinney says:

Jeff, who could not access the sites, indicated that some problems were resolved.
I still can not access the sites however.
    Jeff wrote:
Update #1: This issue seems to be resolved now. I was just at a previously affected computer on Saturday night (NZ time) and the sites worked. However, my laptop won’t load the pages; it only works via proxy. I’m going to question some more people and update this page later. The downtime was approximately 24 hours and may still be affecting some people (myself included).

  2. anonymous says:

It’s definitely not fixed – the terrorists still have me blocked.

  3. me says:

its getting anoying having to proxy/use google cache.

off topic, but Clare from the nzcpr forums?

    • Clare Swinney says:

Yes, that’s me, I post on the nzcpr.com Forum.

The following information was collected by sending out e-mails over the weekend to people around NZ, and asking them if they could access Infowars.com and Prisonplanet.com, and what their ISP was.

Phillip, who uses Telstraclear can access them.

Steve in Stratford, who uses Telstraclear (clear.net.nz address) can access them.

Jenese and Barbara, who both use xnet.co.nz can access them.

Jeremy who uses Vodafone can access them.
Ian uses Vodafone and can access them.

Evelien Gilbert who uses Ihug, and can access them.
Jon in AK who uses Ihug.co.nz can not.
I spoke to someone at Vodafone/Ihug and he advised that some Ihug users may not be able to contact the 2 websites because Ihug/Vodafone is tied in with Telecom. He said if you are directly effected by this problem, to contact them. Business customers on 0800-438-458 and residential customers on 0800438-448 and they can take it further.

Jade in Wellington, who uses Woosh, can not.
Senta, who uses Woosh, can not.

J in Chch and Fred in Whangarei who use Orcon.net.nz can not.

I use Slingshot.co.nz and I can not access them.
Betty uses Slingshot and can not access them.

Andy uses Slingshot and has not been able to access them since Friday.

Barron in Ak wrote I …have Telstra Clear dial up as back for when Telecom Broadband may have a problem and I can confirm that I can access Infowars.com via my TelstraClear dial up, but not via Telecom’s Broadband.

Warren, Daniel, Pat and Ian, who use Telecom’s service, can not access these two sites.

Andrew uses Telecom and can not access it.

Benny can access the sites and he uses Telecom Xtra. He is on dial-up.

Message from Tim at an internet cafe on the 7th of Feb:
I really don’t know what internet provider I’m using as I am
at a net cafe. But I can tell you that I have not been able
      to enter these sites.

  4. iresha says:

Keep the internet free of censorship. Use free proxies such as

    htp://codediaries.com/prxprod

  5. senta says:

i cant access them and i am on woosh

  6. Rave says:

Ok now they are asking for a backlash.

  7. Gerard says:

Someone needs to explain why Telecom nz is routing traffic to these sites that are in the US via Australia. Telecom uses southern cross cable and they have a direct link to the US on a submarine cable 8000km long running from Takapuna to Spencer Beach in Hawaii

  8. Gerard says:

And if anyone is in any doubt about the illegality of internet filtering or blocking, consider Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, binding on all UN member states:

    Article 19
Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.

  10. Clare Swinney says:

Reports have come in that the block is off
Jade with Woosh has access now.
Anthony with Telecom has access now.
    Elizabeth with Telecom has access.
Warren with Telecom has access now.
Andy with Slingshot has access now.
Fred, Jon and Jeff, who are with Orcon, have access now.

Jeff Mitchell advises he stands by what he was told on Saturday by Orcon, that the block was due to AsiaNetcom.

Thank-you to Alex Jones for drawing peoples’ attention to the issue of censorship.

  11. Philip says:

“Someone needs to explain why Telecom nz is routing traffic to these sites that are in the US via Australia.”

The Limelight service, which is were the fault occurred, distributes content around the world onto different servers so users can have (in theory) quicker and less congested access to websites. More distribution points = better speed for the end user.

Some ISPs in NZ (Telecom amongst them) obviously choose to make use of this service where available (ie by serving up content that has been distributed to the Australian Limelight servers, which is accessed via Asia Netcom) instead of from the ‘direct’ source. Others don’t.

    • Clare Swinney says:

A Brand Manager from Slingshot.co.nz phoned on the 9th of February in reply to a request for further information, made on Monday, the 7th.

He advised, as Jeff Mitchell was originally advised by the Orcon technician who did the traceroute, that the block to internet traffic was due to AsiaNetCom. He did not mention the Limelight company as being responsible.

He said the problem with AsiaNetCom was a “technical” problem which was “resolved quickly.”
      Yeah right!

He said the first they knew about the block to Infowars.com and Prisonplanet.com was when customers phoned up and complained.

He said they would not be happy putting a block to the traffic in as he said, they were against censorship and also, because of the competitive nature of the internet – ie it would turn customers away to sites that didn’t engage in censorship of this nature.

He said AsiaNetcom was an “integral” part of their network and consequently, they had to be mindful of that relationship.

Asked if they would consider moving away from AsiaNetcom if censorship became an issue, he said they would review that situation when it arose.
