Heavy Snow Brings Parts of Britain to Standstill

UK Telegraph By Richard Savill  30 Dec 2007 Heavy snow brought swaths of Britain to a standstill on Tuesday night as forecasters issued severe weather warnings of worse to come.

The AA was called to more than 18,000 breakdowns, more than double the average 8,000 for a normal Tuesday in winter, and there were warnings that the treacherous road conditions would continue into the New Year.

The Met Office put extreme weather warnings in place for heavy overnight snow in several parts of England including the Midlands, Yorkshire, the north east and eastern counties.
